José graduated in Medicine and Surgery at the University of Bilbao in 1983 and completed his medical speciality in Estomatology and Dentistry at the University of Barcelona in 1986. He ran his own practice in Spain for twelve years during which time José developed a special interest in the field of Dental Implantology and periodontics. He completed a part-time MSc in Implantology and Oral Rehabilitation in 1995 awarded by the New York University College of Dentistry and to further enhance José’s passion in clinicial excellence, he moved to the University of Houston completing a one-year full-time advanced course in surgical techniques in the field of Periodontology.
He complete a three-year full-time programme at a world-renowned centre of excellence at the University of Gothenburg (Sweden) in 1999, where he obtained an MSc and the recognition as Specialist in Periodentology by the Swedish Board of Health and Welfare. The General Dental Council also recognised him as Specialist in 2002.
Since 2002 he has been a very active clinician and educator in the UK. He has worked as a specialist practitioner based in Leicester and Manchester managing severe periodontal disease with Complex interdisciplinary demands (perio, implant and restorative interfaces), hard and soft tissue grafting techniques, microsurgical plastic procedures and implants in compromised sites.
He was a clinical instructor of the postgraduate course in Periodontology (MClinDen) at the Eastman Dental Institute (London) in 2003, developed the MSc in Clinical Periodontology at UCLan in 2007 being the academic lead until 2013 and is also a regular lecturer nationally and internationally.
In his free time and when his young family allows, José is a keen cyclist and loves playing squash.
